MLB, NBA, NFL Draft Watch: What to Watch for this Week on Matt's Draft Journal

Though the weather in some parts of the country may portray an image that feels more like Christmas, the top of the calendar has now counted into March. As the season soon sees spring in it's sight, the draft scene for this specific time of the year is a significant one for the major professional sports leagues that is Major League Baseball (MLB), the National Basketball Association (NBA), and the National Football League (NFL).

With regard to MLB, while spring training games have recently begun for all 30 teams across the league, draft prospects playing at the college level are now a couple weeks into their regular season, as some of the top high school players across America eligible for the upcoming draft will also soon begin their senior season of play.

Relevant to the NBA Draft, March Madness which normally sees several prospects surge their draft stock is now unofficially underway as college conference tournaments will take place over the next couple of weeks, ushering into Selection Sunday on March 17th. With the NCAA Tournament set to begin play a couple days later on March 19th.

No league's draft process is heating up more than that of the NFL, as the premier event prior to the draft itself is currently being held in Indianapolis. That being the NFL Scouting Combine where over 300 of the most likely prospects to be selected with one of the 254 draft picks come late April are performing.

In the following segment, you'll be able to see a summary of what to expect here on Matt's Draft Journal during this week and in the near future as it relates to the coverage of each aforementioned league's draft prospects and process.

MLB Draft Watch

As mentioned prior to the jump, the college baseball season officially commenced a couple of weeks ago, as draft prospects have since worked to get off to a good start at the beginning of the schedule as scouts from MLB teams make their way to ballparks evaluating early season performances during the still solemn climate and conditions before the weather warms up for good moving forward.

On the opening day of the Division I schedule, Matt's Draft Journal provided a list of college pitchers to watch during the season who are eligible for the 2019 MLB Draft. In the recent future continued lists of draft-eligible, college players to watch at the different positions will be unveiled as the season begins to shake out and the steady flow of formidable series starts to take place. Additionally, readers will be provided the opportunity to peruse previews/recaps of particular contests featuring notable draft prospects.

NBA Draft Watch

With March Madness in the midst, the evaluation of legitimate NBA Draft prospects is at a pivotal point of the season with each passing game placing increased importance on individual players performance, as their opportunity to impress teams at the next level in an actual game setting is slowly but surely shrinking to a small number.

Having not posted an 'On the Scene Team' of the six players at the college level that stood out among their peers from a couple weekends ago, Matt's Draft Journal will soon provide two lists that recognize those prospects to perform at a high-level both from this most recent weekend, as well as the one prior.

In the meantime, fans can feast on the latest Post All-Star Break 2019 NBA Mock Draft that was published just over a week ago — as it'll be updated sometime prior to the beginning of the NCAA Tournament.

NFL Draft Watch

The NFL Scouting Combine is currently ongoing in Indianapolis as numerous scouts and front office executives of all 32 teams across the league are evaluating and assessing the individual talents of the 300 plus prospects in attendance that will soon be surfacing on rosters in the near future.

Despite not decidicating different posts to the pre-draft process prior to that of the NFL Scouting Combine, Matt's Draft Journal has had its eyes attentively on just about all prospects throughout the lead up to the event currently taking place.

Soon to come will be breakdowns/roundups of the offensive and defensive prospects invited and performing at the premier pre-draft process event, as well as a multi-round Post Combine Mock Draft to follow.
